What Is Hemp
Hemp is a plant, same species as the marijuana plant. Both hemp and marijuana have similar smells, and to the untrained eye look very similar. The most significant difference between hemp and marijuana is
their chemical composition.
The hemp plant produces a broad range of cannabinoids, including tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the intoxicating cannabinoid in marijuana. However, hemp does not produce enough THC to create intoxicating effects when consumed. Although the hemp plant doesn't produce a significant amount of THC, it is capable of producing the non-intoxicating and medicinally rich cannabidiol (CBD) in high concentrations.
What Is CBD?
CBD is a chemical compound that works with our endocannibinoid system. This system plays a role in maintaining certain body functions, such as mood, sleep, appetite and much more. Within this system is a network of cannabinoid receptors. The two primary receptors are CB1 and CB2.
CB1 receptors are said to effect the kidney, liver and lungs.
CB2 receptors are said to effect the bone marrow, bones, skin and spleen.
CBD attaches to these receptors and can have various effects. For instance, some research indicates that CBD may interact with the specific receptors that affect sleep.
